Dr. Andrew Hughes is originally from Bismarck, North Dakota where he lived until moving to Canada to attend the University of British Columbia (UBC). After earning a degree in psychology, he spent an additional year at UBC conducting research in the field of cognitive neuroscience before returning to his home state to complete medical school at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Hughes moved to Portland in 2016 to attend residency at Oregon Health & Science University, specializing in Psychiatry.
In addition to being a psychotherapist and prescriber, Dr. Hughes’s clinical approach recognizes the importance of nutrition, physical activity, and sleep as foundations of good mental health.
Dr. Hughes’s patient care is informed by his role in multiple ongoing research studies investigating the use of micronutrients (vitamins, minerals) to assist in the treatment and prevention of mental health problems.
